Jared Lloyd is a wildlife photographer, naturalist, and environmental journalist with more than 20 years of professional experience working in some of the world's most demanding field environments.
His images have appeared in National Geographic, the New York Times, Audubon Magazine, National Wildlife Magazine, and hundreds of other print and digital publications worldwide. With thousands of published credits across two decades of wildlife coverage, his work hangs in both private and corporate collections on every habitable continent.
With a background in wildlife biology and environmental history, and early career experience as an educator with the Teton Science Schools, Jared has built his practice on a methodology he calls ecological literacy — the idea that understanding animal behavior, habitat, and ecological relationships is the foundation of ethical and effective wildlife photography. This approach has made him one of the most sought-after wildlife photography educators in North America.
Since 2009, Jared has led workshops across the Western Hemisphere, guiding photographers of every skill level through the same fieldcraft techniques he uses in his own work. He has served as field consultant and guide for BBC Natural History Unit on productions such as Atlantic: The Wildest Ocean on Earth and has provided on-location expertise for National Geographic crews. Additionally, he has worked on numerous projects that aired on PBS and co-hosted episodes of the PBS series, Wild Photo Adventures.
Jared founded The PhotoWILD Podcast, a wildlife photography and natural history series that debuted at number one on the Apple Podcasts arts charts.
He was the original founder of the Journal of Wildlife Photography and is the creator of PhotoWILD Magazine, the only publication dedicated exclusively to the science and practice of wildlife photography fieldcraft. Jared Lloyd is also the author of several books on wildlife photography such as Light: The essence of wildlife photography, The Photographers Guide to the Outer Banks, Mastering Exposure: Rethinking the Fundamentals of Wildlife Photography, and You Can’t Photograph What You Cant Find: Case Studies in Fieldcraft.
In addition to his work in wildlife photography education, Jared has published over 200 articles in various magazines and news outlets around the world and won 8 national press awards for science and nature writing.
